woytek, 2007-07-13 I purchased this kite in preparation for a trip to the UP of Michigan. I recently got into kiting, and have a small two-line stunt delta and a small, packable box kite (a Prism Triad) to take on bicycle trips. This was my first large kite. I also bought a winder and some 100lb. test dacron, and a little bit of line laundry to try.
I couldn't wait to test-fly this kite today. The winds were good, as a front is blowing into the area. I went to a large field and assembled the kite, attached my new flying line, and launched.
It took a few launches to get this kite solidly into the air, but it launched and flew quite well. The only issue I had with it during its first few, brief flights was that if it lost a little wind and I didn't pull some line back fast enough, it would go into an uncontrollable wag back and forth, then dive nose-first into the ground. After about four sorry starts that ended with the wag-and-dive, I got the kite into the air and stable. I let it out about 100 feet, and it flew quite nicely with a comfortable amount of pull. I decided to try a 4-foot spin sock on the line, so I attached that and let out about another 100-150 feet of line. Everything worked great, and the kite flew beautifully. Thanks, ITW! |
